Christ Community Church Update
We had the third Sunday evening worship service for Christ Community Church tonight. So far, the experience has been a lot of work, but all of it is worthwhile. Here is the rundown of a Sunday afternoon.
4 p.m. - Time to begin getting ready for church. We have several materials to prepare. My beautiful wife is in charge of creating activity packets for the older kids (any child over 5 years old) who sit with their parents during church. She usually makes the papers up on Saturday, but we put the packets on clipboards and organize them into stacks for two age groups. Then we load both of our trunks full of supplies, the backseat of her car, and the front passenger seat of my car.
4:50 p.m. - Time to change into church clothes, load our three kids into the car, and drive to church.
5:00 p.m. - We open the school that we use for church services and begin to set up. Several of the women in the church made a curtain to hang behind the pastor, to disguise the fact that we meet in a school. I and another guy set up the audio system, and my computer to record the audio. We move around tables, and finalize the setup of chairs. All the while, the kids, play, and eat. I usually grab a quick bite to eat as the set-up time comes to an end.
6:00 p.m. - Church is supposed to start. So far, it has started 5 to 10 minutes late each time. The worship service is great! We had 33 people at church this week. We had several people who visited for the first time. This week we put our first ad in the local paper. This attracted the attention of one couple who visited. The other family that visited is related to a family in our church.
7:15 p.m. - Church ends, and it is time to start tearing down, and disassembling the audio system. Load everything back into the cars, and start locking up the building. We take down the banner that we hang up out front on our way out. The school has asked us to only put up the banner on the weekends.
8:30 p.m. - We are finally at home, with the cars unloaded. Now it is time to put the kids to bed.
9:00 p.m. - Time to log onto the computer and export the sermon into an mp3 file and put it onto the website so that people can download it. Normally, I burn several copies of the sermon to CD, for anyone who missed the service, and doesn’t have time to download the sermon for themselves.
10:00 p.m. - Finally done, I can surf the web, or get ready for bed.
Well, it is a long evening, but man, is it worth it. We had a great service tonight.
