New twist on prophetic tech

I like to listen to Mark Driscoll’s sermons. He works through books; he is funny; he is real; he is direct. I know he isn’t perfect, but I still like his sermons. I was listening to one of his sermons in the car yesterday, and he threw out this quip, which made me laugh. It shows just how far technology has changed.

“I have my own prophet—He is a speaking prophet. If you’re here—thanks for the illustration. And he sends me cassette tapes of prophecy—for me—words from the Lord. Apparently the Lord did not tell him that I do not own a tape player. So I have never heard a one. If you are going to prophecy do it in a mp3.”

–Mark Driscoll in sermon: Diversion and Deception (Nehemiah 6:1-14) given on May 1, 2007.

The quote is about 50 minutes into the sermon, near the end.

So, from now on, if anyone claims to be a prophet, make sure you ask for their mp3 files. If they don’t do mp3’s then they must not be a real prophet.
